NEW MVCx EVENT A SURPRISING SUCCESS

On November 29, the Monta Vista Christian Studio hosted an event called MVCx, a twist on the popular TEDx program. Nine students were selected from Monte Vista art programs to give brief presentations on topics of their choice. The theme for the event was to inspire, design, and create. Guests were required to sign in before entering the theatre, and were given a lanyard with a QR code. The QR code linked to a digital program containing a list of the speakers and a letter from Mr. De Los Santos, the digital arts instructor.

The student speakers presented on a variety of topics that inspired them. For example, seniors JJ Gonzales and Ryan Frasher spoke about an interior design app that they created themselves. Another student, McKenzie Cappoza, talked about her experiences volunteering at The Stanford Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

It was evident that the students took time and made an effort to practice and prepare for the event. The performance by the students exceeded expectations by a long shot. The success of the event was credited to the students, staff, and volunteers who helped bring the event together.

Thursday night was the official first launch of the MVCx. The atmosphere of the theatre was formal and exciting. The night was filled with presentations from students with an intermission period were the attendees could get food and drinks outside. All refreshments were provided by a MVC family. Mr. De Los Santos announced that the Monte Vista Studio plans for MVCx to be “the most exciting educational” annual event.

According to Mr. De Los Santos’s letter, the idea for MVCx was brought up in “conversations with my colleagues about capturing brilliant ideas of students on a larger platform.” The event was apparently more successful than he expected, and sparked excitement for the future of MVCx. The MVCx team hopes next year’s event will have more speakers as they continue to improve the experience.
